Quick Weekend Fix – Ikea Hack

Let’s face it we all own something from Ikea in our homes. We’ve all still got useful furniture that we can’t bear to throw out but it really doesn’t go with our current home style.

It’s so easy to update ikea furniture and not so expensive that you should feel bad about updating it. I’ve had this wooden kitchen trolley for about 15 years now and it’s still perfectly functional, it just didn’t go with my new kitchen so I decided to get the paint out.

I used a teak wood stain to darken the top down to match my iroko wooden worktops and I had some leftover eggshell paint I’d used on my table and chairs so I used that – White Pepper by Marston & Langinger

Mini how to guide

You’ll need, a good multi surface primer as the legs on this were lacquered wood so I wasn’t able to sand down.

One coat of primer, followed by 2 coats of eggshell or chalk finish paint. A couple of coats of wood stain for the top and a few hours later it was finished.
